On Sunday, February 2, our church will celebrate Baptist Heritage Sunday. This annual observance, organized by the Baptist Identity and Partnership Committee, allows us to think about the history of our church and to reflect on what it means to be a Baptist church like ours in the world today.

This year our guest preacher and teacher will be the Rev. Dr. Meredith Stone, Executive Director of Baptist Women in Ministry. An ordained minister, she has previously served both in congregational ministry and as Associate Dean for Academics and Assistant Professor of Scripture & Ministry at Logsdon Seminary of Hardin-Simmons University. Dr. Stone received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Hardin-Simmons University and earned a Ph.D. in Biblical Interpretation from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University.

As Executive Director of Baptist Women in Ministry, she is a national leader in the cause of women in ministry. BWIM is one our Baptist partnership organizations, and we support their work and partner with them as we advocate for the full inclusion of women in ministry and leadership in the life of our congregation.

Our Baptist Heritage Sunday begins with a joint Adult Sunday School class in the Fellowship Hall at 9:45 a.m. Dr. Stone will lead us in a lesson and discussion, and we hope that all of our adult Sunday School classes will join us for what will surely be an interesting time of learning and conversation. We will share a potluck breakfast, and you are invited to bring a breakfast item to share.

Dr. Stone will lead in our worship service as guest preacher. Please join us for this important opportunity to remember and reflect on our identity as a Baptist congregation with a history of women in important leadership roles and a call to advocate for women in ministry in our future.
