On Sunday, March 16, Craig McMahan will interview a special guest, Nathaneal Barrow, as that Sunday’s sermon.
Nathaneal Barrow stands atop a mountain of numerous successes. He is a decorated military hero. During his deployment with the US Army in Afghanistan, Sargent Barrow distinguished himself as a soldier, earning the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and the NATO Medal for service in an imminent danger zone of hazardous duty. In May 2024, Nathaneal graduated from Mercer University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He is currently working on the completion of a Mercer’s master’s degree in counseling. His many achievements and his capacity for leadership were important considerations in his selection as the 2024 winner of the prestigious McAfee Vision and Leadership Scholarship.
Nathaneal, however, has also known some of life’s lowest valleys. He was seriously injured in Afghanistan when the vehicle he was riding in struck an IED and rolled, crushing him beneath it. Intense pain and numerous surgeries resulted in an addiction to pain medications and alcohol. During this period, the tragic death of his younger brother pushed Nathaneal deeper into a very dark hole that seemed impossible to escape.
By personal determination and the grace of God, Nathaneal was able to not only survive these hardships but to thrive on his way to a renewed life of service and love. On March 16, somewhat in the style of what Baptists used to call testimony, Nathaneal and Craig will have a conversation about the story of Nathaneal’s life and how God’s hand led him from wounds to healing, from brokenness to wholeness and the promise of a new life.
Make plans to join us to hear Nathaneal’s powerful and beautiful story.
